Why Adoption?

You might be wondering why we are adopting. Here is the short and simple answer, because we have felt inspired to build our family through adoption.

Here is the longer answer, before we were married we talked about our experiences with adoption and our desire to add to our family this way. We both liked the idea of having a few biological children and then adopting as well. We were hoping for a total of 4. Little did we know that adoption would be the main path that Heavenly Father wanted us to take to build our eternal family.

We started trying to get pregnant at the beginning of 2005 and found that it wasn't as easy as everyone makes it out to be. ;) Growing up Kim always thought that she wouldn't be able to get pregnant so this didn't come as too much of a shock to her, however it was still very frustrating.

The standard is to try to get pregnant by yourself for a year before consulting a fertility specialist. This is what we did, with no luck. Eventually we did end up going to a specialist who ran some tests and found no reason why we weren't getting pregnant. That was frustrating because with nothing wrong there was nothing we could fix. Our doctor suggested that we try IUI (artificial insemination) and we thought that was a good idea too. We tried one round and it was unsuccessful. We were really sad about it but we were excited for adoption.

The hardest part for us about our infertility was not that we couldn't have biological children, or that there was no apparent reason for our infertility. It was that we desired to be parents so badly and we couldn't make that happen. Also we had no idea how long we would have to wait before we our dream of becoming parents would come true. All we wanted was to have our children, the children that we were supposed to raise and be sealed to.

When we adopted Katie our dream came true. We understand that for Katie to be our daughter everything in our life had to go the way that it did. For that reason, we are thankful for our infertility.

This song has meant a lot to us through our adoption journey. We first heard it on a CD that features songs inspired by adoption. The artist of this song recently made a video using pictures of families created through adoption. Kim cries every time she watches it. We hope you enjoy the song as much as we do!
