A sampling of pictures from September

I have a ton of blog posts to catch up on but for now I will just add a bunch of pictures. Enjoy.

she had a fever, poor baby

Katie took 3 semesters of classes at Kindermusik and now she is used on their posters around town.

1st day of gymnastics
We were very impressed with this dinosaur she drew on my iphone.
Katie was my makeup artist for the day.
She loves to go to bed with books.

Again we were really impressed. She got talent.

First time I got the curlers to work right.
Play time during preschool at our house.
It is hard to tell in this picture but Katie had her first black eye. She ran into the corner of the couch.
What she wanted to wear when we delivered cookies to our neighbor. Wings and boots go together really well, don't you think?
Both girls snuggling with their Mommy.

Oh Fall, how I love you

October is the start of my favorite time of year. It marks cooler weather and the start of many reason to celebrate. Ken and I's birthdays are this month (2 days apart) which we celebrate not with gifts but with creating memories. We like to take a small trip and this year is no different. (once we go on the trip I will post the link here) We are also going camping this month which we are really excited about. October is chalk full of fun activities not to mention Halloween. Now, all I have to do is decorate the house to really get into the spirit. Yea Fall!

Cake Decorating Class - Course 4 (Advanced Gum Paste Flowers)

I was really nervous about this course because I was (like the title says) going to making some pretty advanced flowers. I also knew that I would be required to wire the flowers and use floral tape which I am not a fan of. The first lesson was painful, I had to tape a small pearl stamen to a 26 gauge floral wire. The only thing I could get the tape to stick to was my fingers. It was so frustrating! The only fun thing about that first class was making a Gerbera Daisy. (It ended up breaking so I didn't get pictures of it.)

The next class went much better and so did the last two classes. I had a ton of fun making these flowers. Although working with floral wire is not my favorite, it was good to learn a new skill. I loved how everything turned out (even if they aren't perfect). My favorite part was painting the flowers and leaves with the edible color dust. It is amazing how it really changes and completes the look. Now for the pictures.

Briar Rose:

Stephanotis:

Stephanotis Bud:

Sweet Pea: (this was one of my favorites)
left-painted with edible dust    right-untouched
the edible dust brings the flowers to life

The leaves:

I am most proud of how these flowers turned out. I used a yellow and 2 green dusts to get this look. I think they turned out pretty realistic.

My flowers drying:

Stargazer Lily: (This was my favorite flower. I loved how it turned out.)
without dots
I used a food writing marker to make the dots

I love the white pearl dust.

Our Big Girl

Thank you E. Smith Photography for taking amazing pictures of our sweet girl.

These photos were from Katie's 3 year old photo shoot. (taken in August) I had so much fun coming up with words to describe her. Is it weird that they all start with S? I thought so. Any who, these words describe Katie perfectly and I love how each picture embodies the word. Perfection! I can't wait to have these printed up for our home.
