Katie the comedian, girly girly and chocoholic

Yesterday we stopped at Wal Mart for a quick shopping trip. I decided because it was only going to be about 5 minutes I would let Katie walk instead of locking her down in the shopping cart. Having her run around like crazy just made me laugh and it also provided some pretty funny moments.

Well Katie was running along she stopped suddenly, changed her direction and ran straight to the jewelry counter where she proceeded to put her hands on the glass and say, "OOHHHHHH, PRETTY!" A lady walking by noticed what she did and at the same time we both said to each other, "That's a girl for ya!" lol

Next up was the door greeter. She ran up to the older gentleman and yelled, "HI! HOW ARE YOU?" The door greeter laughed and said, "Good. How are you?" To this she did not reply but continued to stand there. He then told her you are very beautiful. To this comment, she turned her head side to side while brushing her hair with her hand, saying braid hair and blinking her eyes. (and no she didn't have braids in) We all had a good laugh over that.

Then on the drive home she said, "Pick a booger, pick a booger, I get it." Despite me asking her not to, she proceeding to pick her nose. She then stuck her finger in her mouth and said, "Ummm, tasty booger." So gross but she had never said that before and I couldn't help but laugh.

Later that night as I was getting her ready for bed she was standing on the changing table in just a diaper when she sang out, "shake your booty, shake your booty" over and over again while shaking her little booty. I bought her downstairs and told Ken what had just happened, then will all sang shake your booty while doing just that. Yesterday was such a fun day!

Today was fun as well. She is constantly surprising me with her new little sayings and the things that she does. Now with that said, as many of your know she can be quite the little stinker! She is an expert at getting into things that she knows she is not supposed to. She waits until I leave the room to make her move. She will immediately stop whatever she is doing to go and get into something. (This is why I normally have her go with me from room to room as I am doing things.) Today was no different, I pulled the sheets out of the dryer and took them upstairs to fold. This took no more than five minutes. I came downstairs with the anticipation of what I would find, but to my surprise she was not pulling things out of the drawer. (what she normally does) I was pleasantly surprised....then she rounded the corner, coming our of the pantry with two fistfuls of chocolate chips. As soon as she saw me, she shoved one of her fistfuls into her mouth almost in a panic mode. I could not stop laughing. All I could do was snap some pictures of my cute little stinker!  (and take away the other handful of chocolate chips.)

As I was writing this she provided me with some more laughs. She was sitting next to me playing with a doll and telling it to, "not be naughty." If only the doll would tell her the same thing, lol. Also, Ken came home from work and Katie ran up to him, then turned her back on him and sang out, "SHAKE YOUR BOOTY" and shook her cute little booty for him.

Can I just say, I LOVE MY LIFE!

Once Upon a Time

A couple of weeks ago I bought a book from an LDS bookstore. The book is called, "Once Upon a Time, an Adoption Story". It is written by Ashley Hansen Bigler with Illustrations by Amy Hintze. It is a great book! Katie LOVES it! And I mean LOVES it! She has us read it to her before her nap and bedtime. In fact she has already memorized a lot of it.

Here is the book:

Mommy, tell me a story.
Sure, what do you want the story to be about tonight?

ME!
Okay. Once upon a time, Mommy and Daddy fell in love and got married. We couldn't wait to have a    baby and start a family.

Is that when I was born?
Not yet. Mommy wasn't able to make a baby in her tummy, and we were very sad. We just knew you were in Heaven waiting for us.

So what did you do?
We prayed every night asking God to help us find a way to bring you home.
Then what happened?

Well, while we were praying for you, there was a young woman who was going to have a baby, and she       was praying to find out what to do. She loved her baby very much, but she wanted her baby to have more than she was able to give her.
That baby was me, wasn't it?

Yes, and the young woman is your birth mother. Although she loved you very much and she knew it would be hard, she felt in her heart that you belonged to someone else. She decided it was time to find your forever family.

Did you know my birth mother?
No, she lived very far away.
So how did she find you?

Mommy and Daddy made a scrapbook that had stories and pictures in it about our family. We gave that to an adoption agency. That's a place that helps bring families together. The same agency was trying to help your birth mother find a family for her baby. They sent her lots of scrapbooks to look at. One of them was ours.

How did she know to pick you?
She said she knew as soon as she opened our book that we were your forever family. The Holy Ghost gave her a peaceful feeling inside as an answer to her prayers. She couldn't wait to call and tell us that our baby was on the way.

Did you get to meet my birth mother?
Yes, that was a wonderful day. I loved her from the moment I met her. She was so beautiful, and I could tell she loved you very much. I was even able to feel you move in her tummy. I couldn't believe how much I loved you without even seeing you.

What happen next?
We had to wait, and wait, and wait. I kept busy by getting your bedroom ready. I was in there every day looking at your crib and wishing you were home.

Tell me about the day I was born.
That was the best day of all. You were the most beautiful baby. When I held you for the first time, it felt like I had known you forever. I never wanted to let you go, but I knew I had to share you with Daddy. You had him wrapped around your little finger from that very first day. Oh, how we loved you.

Mom, in the morning, will you help me make a scrapbook?
Sure, but what do you need a scrapbook for?

To give to the adoption agency, so they can help me find my new brother or sister!

Isn't that the sweetest book! When we read the book to Katie she will say all the little girl parts. It is the cutest thing ever. I love it when she yells, ME! (from the first part of the book)

Katie has never taken to a book like she has to this book. When we gave it to her we told her it was her special book about adoption. (She now calls it her special adoption book.) We believe that because we have used adoption language around her since she was a newborn she gets that this story is special because it is like her story. Plus reading her this book daily gives us a great opportunity to talk more about her adoption and her birth mum Kirsty. We also get a daily reminder about how special that time was!

I highly recommend this book if you have a child that is adopted!

(If you have a great adoption book that you read to your kids please share!)

A fun 24 hours

Yesterday my Mom flew in from Cali!!!! Yea!!! It was so much fun to have her here. Katie loves going to the airport to pick people up, especially people like Grandma! Since the airport was so close to the LDS Dallas Temple we decided it would fun to take Katie there. She has not been back since we were all sealed together when she was 7 months old. The temple is closed on Mondays so it was a perfect time to go. She got to run all around the outside while not bothering anyone. The tulips were in bloom and Katie loved to smell them. The temple grounds were so peaceful and beautiful to walk around.

I must admit I did get a little teary eyed when I took a picture of Katie sitting on the same bench we sat her on after the sealing. It is hard to believe how much she has changed in just two short years.

This morning Katie woke up at 6:05 and when I went in her room to get her she jumped out of bed and ran by me saying, Katie tired, freeezzzzing. She proceeded to run into our bedroom where she hoped into our bed, saying again, "I'm so tired and freezing. Cuddle please." So we cuddled together and both fell back asleep for another hour. When she woke up she said, "Temple please." That melted my heart. Such a sweet girl!

Later today we worked on an art project. I found this awesome idea on Pinterest and couldn't wait to try it. It was a fast and easy project that Katie was able to help with. I loved how it turned out. It will look great in her play room. Here it is!

8 Years

Last week Ken and I celebrated our 8th anniversary. woohoo! I sure love my hubby! He is a wonderful man and I am so lucky to be married to him.

For our first anniversary we decided that we didn't want to do gifts for each other but instead we would take a vacation. Ken planned our first trip and it was a complete surprise to me. I didn't know what we were doing or where we were going until we got there. The surprise is so much fun and we love making memories instead of getting each other stuff that we don't really need. We switch off who gets to plan and surprise the other person. Although I will say, I think Ken is way better at it then I am.

Ken planned this years trip and it was wonderful. (like always) It started off with a couples massage followed by dinner at a fun restaurant that we havd never been to, Hollywood and Vine. The hamburgers were so good! We then checked into a beautiful B&B. check it out here The room was beautiful too! (room #2)

We have stayed as some awesome B&B's over the years and this was no exception. The view was so beautiful. It felt like we were the only ones out there, well except for the foxes that came up to eat. We had a great night of sleep followed by a wonderful breakfast feast.

Ken had a hike planned for us later that morning but instead we decided to go back home to do some shopping. We had been talking over some home improvement projects that we wanted to do and thought that since we had some time without Katie we should go to the store and pick out some paint colors. Which we did. (Once we are done with all the painting I will post some pictures) It was a little weird doing normal things without Katie but it was nice to be able to focus on the task at hand.

The trip was a perfect getaway. We had a very relaxing time while Katie had a blast spending the night at her friends house. A great anniversary weekend was had by all!

(I just want to add that the day before our anniversary was the 2nd anniversary of being sealed to our sweet little girl!)

The night away was not on our actually anniversary so when the day really arrived Katie and I took Ken out to lunch. Doesn't she look so cute!!!!
