Cake Decorating Class - Course 4 (Advanced Gum Paste Flowers)

I was really nervous about this course because I was (like the title says) going to making some pretty advanced flowers. I also knew that I would be required to wire the flowers and use floral tape which I am not a fan of. The first lesson was painful, I had to tape a small pearl stamen to a 26 gauge floral wire. The only thing I could get the tape to stick to was my fingers. It was so frustrating! The only fun thing about that first class was making a Gerbera Daisy. (It ended up breaking so I didn't get pictures of it.)

The next class went much better and so did the last two classes. I had a ton of fun making these flowers. Although working with floral wire is not my favorite, it was good to learn a new skill. I loved how everything turned out (even if they aren't perfect). My favorite part was painting the flowers and leaves with the edible color dust. It is amazing how it really changes and completes the look. Now for the pictures.

Briar Rose:

Stephanotis:

Stephanotis Bud:

Sweet Pea: (this was one of my favorites)
left-painted with edible dust    right-untouched
the edible dust brings the flowers to life

The leaves:

I am most proud of how these flowers turned out. I used a yellow and 2 green dusts to get this look. I think they turned out pretty realistic.

My flowers drying:

Stargazer Lily: (This was my favorite flower. I loved how it turned out.)
without dots
I used a food writing marker to make the dots

I love the white pearl dust.
